The Varsity Cross Country team opened their season at the Bobcat Invitational where Will Trautz ‘27 won the race with a time of 16:09.9, a new course record.
“Will had a spectacular opening to the 2025 cross country season,” Assistant Coach Jake DeCaprio ‘16 said. “Will demonstrated grit and determination as he led by a significant margin throughout the race.”
Held at the DeMeritt Hill Farm in Lee, New Hampshire, the Bobcat Invitational has a reputation as one of the most challenging courses on the schedule each year. The incredible heat and humidity on the day enhanced the level of difficulty even further.
Coach DeCaprio attributes Will’s success, regardless of the conditions on race day, to his relentless preparation. “His course-record-setting performance at the Bobcat was a testament to all of the hard work he put in this summer to build fitness for the fall season, and we are all excited to see him compete as the defending ISL Champion this fall.”
With Trautz leading the way, it was a great day overall for Belmont Hill. In a field of 19 teams from New Hampshire, the varsity team finished 4th, and the JV team finished 2nd. The team will next compete on September 20 at Belmont Hill’s Rockmeadow course.
