Congratulations to Tess D’Orsi ’16, who was just named to the 25-player training roster for the U.S. Women’s National Under-19 Lacrosse Team. A rising Fifth Former from Sudbury, MA, D’Orsi was the leading scorer on this past spring’s 15-2 St. Mark’s Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse team, earning All-Independent School League (ISL), All-New England, and All-American honors for her efforts.

Tess was competing with 110 players from eighteen states for one of 25 spots on the National team. Players were chosen by an 11-person selection committee led by head coach Kim Simons (Bryn Mawr School of Maryland) and selection chair Liz Kittleman (Columbia University), following a three-day tryout  at Stevenson University. Among other selectors were U.S. U19 assistant coaches Michele DeJuliis, Bowen Holden and Wendy Kridel, as well as U.S. senior team head Coach Ricky Fried and assistant coach Liz Robertshaw.

“We were unbelievably impressed by the talent level and effort level of the girls from top to bottom,” said head coach Kim Simons. “These players have gone through a number of tryouts just to get to this point. The staff has done a really incredible job of selecting the best 25 players for our training squad.”

The U.S. National U19 team will attempt to go for a fifth world title at the 2015 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Under-19 World Championship, July 23-Aug. 1 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The U.S. has claimed the past four gold medals in 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011, most recently defeating Australia 14-11 at Hannover, Germany in July of 2011. Ultimately, 18 of the 25 players selected for the training squad this year will represent the U.S. in Edinburgh next summer.
