Upper School track coach Jeff Browne P'04, '05 won his 500th track meet last weekend at Tabor. This number of wins just includes his coaching career at Thayer, and doesn't include wins at championship meets, of which Thayer has many. The team celebrated this amazing milestone with the coach after the meet, and spelled out 500 with their track shoes.
"Although this milestone gives us an interesting statistic, this meet was no more important than any other. We took the same approach as always – with each athlete focusing on working hard to achieve his or her personal best. We aim to peak at the championship meets, using the regular season meets along the way as developmental stages in that progression," said Jeff.
He adds, "I also have to credit my assistant coaches, because you don't win track meets by yourself. For most of those championship seasons, Peter Robarts P '01, '04, '06 and Tom Chiari P '20, P'20 were indispensable. This year I'm working with a very enthusiastic group of coaches. I couldn't manage these four track teams without their help. Steve Branfman P'00, '02; Nellie Brennan Hall; David Callum; Larry Carlson P '02, '05, '10; George Chatman; Callie Schneider; Paul McCarron; and I am honored that three alums who were individual champions themselves, have come back to Thayer as members of our coaching staff: Christina Anastos '09; Chizoba Ezeigwe '05; and Brittany Reardon '10."
