Amal Scott of Middlesex Named Boston Children's Hospital 2018 Black Achiever

1/19/2018

Middlesex Varsity Football and Varsity Boys' Basketball assistant coach Amal Scott was named a Boston Children's Hospital 2018 Black Achiever at the Hospital's annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Observance Monday afternoon. Amal, who joined the Middlesex coaching staff in 2016, was honored for his outstanding work in the community.

Boston Children's remarks, "leveraging his own background as a scholar/athlete, Amal has worked with local minority families to introduce and improve routes to success through education and athletics. He mentors Boston area youth about college preparation and test preparation, how to apply to charter/private schools, and has helped connected students with tutors to improve their test performance. One concrete example of the bridge to success that Amal has facilitated is his hosting of a summer intern and a summer Job Shadow at Boston Children's in 2017. Both students came to Boston Children's from Boston Community Leadership Academy (BCLA), a pilot high school in Hyde Park dedicated to the mission of instilling community leadership and academic excellence in its students."

After Lettering in football and basketball at Newton North High School, Amal went on to play football while earning a degree in Physical Therapy at Florida A&M University. He earned a Master's degree from Cambridge College while coaching AAU Basketball.

Congratulations Amal!
