Roxbury Latin's Leon Brown '10 Sits Atop the College Soccer World

Leon Brown ’10 dazzled Roxbury Latin soccer fans for six years with his quick moves, remarkable instincts, and uncanny ability to put the ball in the back of the net. He routinely tormented opposing ISL goalkeepers and led the Foxes to multiple tournament appearances. Soccer fans throughout the area quickly learned of Brown’s talent, and many expected him to shine at the next level.

Those who predicted that he would go on to enjoy great success were proven prophetic on Saturday afternoon, when he and his Notre Dame Fighting Irish teammates defeated the Maryland Terrapins 2-1 in the National Championship game. Brown culminated his college career in style by scoring the Irish’s first goal of the final game. With five minutes to go in the first half, Brown received a backdoor header which he slid past the diving Maryland keeper. ESPN accurately commented on his grit and toughness which loomed large on a cold and dreary day in Philadelphia. His style of play was properly signified by the face mask that he wore to protect his broken nose. Check out highlights from the game here.
