Groton, Mass. — Lawrence Academy’s Max Meier ’19 (a Stanford commit from Belmont) pitched a complete game no-hitter in an impressive April 17 outing, which featured 11 K’s and only three walks in a 7-0 win over Independent School League (ISL) rival St. Mark’s School (Southboro).
“I think from the beginning of the game I could tell I was going to be on,” said Meier of the win. “All four of my pitches were working really well, which is always good.
“My plan was to just attack hitters and throw strikes, and let my defense make the plays they needed to.”

Long-time Lawrence Academy baseball Varsity Head Coach Chris Margraf, agreed,but noted that the “no-no” wasn’t the only sign of significant gains by the Stanford-bound senior.
“Max continues to progress extremely well since our spring trip to Florida,” said Margraf, recently lauded as
one of the most influential people in New England Baseball.

“Most impressive is that Max is a gamer,” said Margraf, whose club raised its record to 3-1. “He loves to compete. He added an RBI single in the first from the three-hole in the order.
“Max had a good command of his fastball early on and became more comfortable with his curve as the game progressed.”

“Overall – a great team win.”
But the early-season win registered hardly a high-five after the game ended, with Meier and LA maintaining their game-faces until after the handshakes concluded.
“I think the team knew of the no hitter once we got into the 6th and 7th innings,” explained Meier. “I didn’t start to think about it until the last few outs.
“Right after we got through the line and shook hands, everyone congratulated me and was excited for me – which was great.”
“Great” is an understated superlative, but Athletic Director Kevin Potter added his own.
“Stanford is certainly getting a good one. We are so proud of Max and his no-hitter today!
“He is an outstanding student-athlete — a leader on and off the field — and we are so proud of his accomplishment.”
