The ISL Heads of School have been convening weekly by videoconference since the start of the COVID-19 crisis to assess the viability of interscholastic competition this spring. With Governor Baker’s announcement that all schools in the Commonwealth would continue distance learning through the end of the academic year, we acknowledge with a deep sense of sadness the loss of the spring ISL season.
In particular, our hearts go out to our seniors who have lost so much this spring. Through their commitment to the highest levels of athletic competition, they have breathed life into our league motto by modeling sportsmanship, fair play, and mutual respect. In their years of competing in the league, they have allowed us to celebrate with them in moments of great triumph, and to sympathize with them in moments of disappointment. Not being able to see them compete in their final seasons is something we all regret.
While the loss of the spring season is disappointing, we remain as committed as ever to the values that make the ISL such an important part of what our schools offer to our students and their families. We will continue to work together to resume interscholastic competition just as soon as it is safe for us to do so.
In the spirit of collaboration that has guided us as a league for decades, we have created a
video as a special tribute to our senior student-athletes. We are grateful to them for enriching our schools through their dedication to their athletic pursuits.
